PROJECT - Comprehensive Primary Healthcare for Tribal Communities in Telangana

Mobile Medical Unit for Tribal Hamlets of Telangana

1. The Mobile Medical Unit, supported by Association for India’s Development (AID) USA and Karuna Trust, brings comprehensive healthcare services to remote and underserved tribal communities in Bhadradri Kothagudem district of Telangana, where distance and limited infrastructure can make accessing medical care especially difficult. The project serves 28 remote tribal habitations and a population of approximately 5,000, with a special focus on maternal and child health (MCH).

2. Through a Mobile Medical Unit, trained healthcare teams travel directly to isolated villages to provide primary medical care, maternal and child health services, newborn and child care, health education, and screening for conditions such as malaria and anemia. The project also helps identify high-risk pregnancies and serious illnesses at an early stage, connecting patients with appropriate hospitals and ensuring follow-up care when needed. By bringing healthcare closer to families who might otherwise go without, the initiative is helping communities access timely, preventive, and potentially lifesaving care.

3. The organization’s longstanding work with tribal communities was recognized with the Governor’s Excellence Award 2025. The award honored its sustained efforts toward the development and wellbeing of tribal communities and was presented by the Honorable Governor of Telangana at Lok Bhavan, Hyderabad, on the 77th Republic Day. This recognition reflects the organization’s continued commitment to reaching some of the state’s most underserved communities and improving access to essential services.
