AID supports 7 atalabadis in remote areas of Alluri Sita Ramaraju district, where 150 children learn Telugu, English, math, and environmental science with teachers from their own community. At home, the children speak their own Kondh language, and there are no English speakers in the village. In the atalabadi, they learn some Telugu and English, which they will need when they go outside the village.

LAYA runs a total of 13 atalabadis serving 275 children, supported by AID and ASHA. These villages do not have government schools and many do not have electricity. The program also creates a bridge to continued education. Children who complete the foundational curriculum receive a school completion certificate that enables them to enter government schools from Class 3 onward. Since 2015, 115 students from AID-supported Atalabadi schools have gone on to government residential schools run by ITDA, opening doors to further education and new opportunities.
